Taking Period Underwear on a Trip: What to Pack and How Many

Packing for a trip during your period comes with a specific calculation most people do badly the first time: too few pairs and you're hand-washing in a hotel sink, too many and you've wasted luggage space you needed for everything else. The right number depends on trip length and laundry access, not just cycle length.

The actual math

If you'll have laundry access — a hotel with a sink and enough drying time, or a longer stay where you can do a wash — two to three pairs on rotation covers most of a trip, worn, rinsed, and reused the same way you would at home. If you won't have reliable washing or drying time, plan for one pair per day of expected flow, since line-drying is the one step in the care routine you can't skip or rush.

What actually matters for travel specifically

Drying time is the real constraint, more than absorbency or how many pairs you own. A pair needs to air dry fully between wears, and humid destinations or hotel bathrooms without good airflow can stretch that longer than expected — pack an extra pair or two beyond your usual rotation as a buffer, not because you'll need the absorbency, but because you might need the drying time.

Flying and airport security

Period underwear travels the same as any other clothing — no restrictions, no special screening, nothing to declare. It packs flat and light compared to carrying a supply of pads or tampons for the same trip length, which is one of the more underrated travel advantages.

If you're unsure about flow away from home

Daywear and nightwear absorbency (50ml and 75ml respectively) work the same away from home as they do at home — the uncertainty isn't the product, it's not knowing your hotel's laundry situation in advance. When in doubt, packing for the no-laundry scenario and being pleasantly surprised beats the reverse.
